In the upcoming sports action drama F1, Academy Award winner Javier Bardem takes on the role of Ruben Cervantes, a former Formula One driver turned team owner. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, dives into the high-stakes world of Formula One racing.
The story follows Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, a retired F1 driver who is called back to the track to help mentor a young and promising rookie, Joshua “Noah” Pearce, portrayed by Damson Idris. Their team, APXGP, is struggling to make its mark in the championship—still chasing its first point.
Bardem’s character Ruben isn’t just a team owner—he’s Hayes’s former teammate. His decision to bring Hayes back into the fold shows a mix of desperation and hope, offering a compelling narrative of second chances and personal redemption. The film explores mentorship, rivalry, and the relentless pursuit of greatness.
Set for release internationally on June 25, 2025, and in the U.S. and Canada on June 27—just ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix—F1 promises a thrilling cinematic experience. The movie was filmed at actual F1 races with support from real teams and drivers, adding authenticity to its intense 153-minute runtime.
The star-studded cast includes Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia, with an original score by Hans Zimmer. Distributed theatrically by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film will also stream on Apple TV+ after its cinematic run.
With high-speed action, dramatic character arcs, and the glamour of the racing world, F1 aims to be more than just a racing film—it’s a story of resilience, legacy, and passion.
