A live-action film adaptation of the acclaimed video game Elden Ring is officially in development. The project will be directed and written by Alex Garland, best known for Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War.
The film is a collaboration between Bandai Namco Entertainment and the independent studio A24.
George R.R. Martin, who helped create the game’s lore, will serve as a co-producer alongside Vince Gerardis, Peter Rice, and DNA Films’ Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich.
Although specific plot details and casting have not been revealed, the film aims to reflect the expansive, mysterious world of the Lands Between featured in the game.
The original Elden Ring video game, developed by FromSoftware and released in 2022, has sold over 30 million copies and is praised for its open-world design and deep lore.
The Elden Ring franchise continues to grow, with a new multiplayer-focused spinoff titled Elden Ring: Nightreign scheduled for release on May 30, 2025.
