David Greenbaum, President of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, emphasized Stitch’s global appeal, calling him one of Disney’s fastest-growing franchises.
Greenbaum praised the creative team's efforts to bring Stitch to life in a live-action format and announced the return of Chris Sanders, the original voice of Stitch, for the remake.
The production faced several casting issues. Kahiau Machado, initially cast as David Kawena, was replaced after social media posts containing racial slurs surfaced. He was replaced by Kaipo Dudoit.
Additionally, Sydney Agudong's casting as Nani sparked concerns around colorism and representation, prompting backlash from fans.
Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the live-action Lilo & Stitch premiered in theaters in May 2025. It stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo and features Chris Sanders reprising his role as Stitch. Critics have praised the movie's emotional depth and visual effects, though some questioned the necessity of a remake.
