Bill Skarsgård Returns as Pennywise in Chilling First Trailer for HBO's 'It: Welcome to Derry

HBO has unveiled the first teaser trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, the highly anticipated prequel series to Stephen King's iconic horror saga. Set to premiere in fall 2025, the series delves into the sinister origins of Pennywise the Clown and the haunting history of Derry, Maine.

A foggy, dimly lit street in the small town of Derry at night, with a shadowy, sinister clown figure lurking in the background, capturing the eerie and terrifying atmosphere of Stephen King’s It.

The nearly two-minute trailer transports viewers back to 1962, decades before the events of the 2017 and 2019 It films. It introduces a young hitchhiker warned against entering Derry, a Black family confronting hostility upon moving into the town, and local children investigating mysterious disappearances—all culminating in a chilling glimpse of Pennywise lurking in the shadows.

Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as the menacing Pennywise, bringing back the terrifying presence that captivated audiences in the previous films. The cast also features Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.

Developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti—the creative duo behind the successful It films—alongside Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, the nine-episode series aims to explore the cyclical nature of evil in Derry. The first season is set in 1962, with plans for subsequent seasons to delve into events from 1935 and 1908, periods referenced in King's original novel.

It: Welcome to Derry is scheduled to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in late 2025, promising to expand the chilling universe of Stephen King's masterpiece and offer fans a deeper understanding of the horrors that plague Derry.
