Marvel Studios has officially postponed the release of its next two major Avengers films:
Avengers: Doomsday – now set for December 18, 2026 (previously May 1, 2026)
Avengers: Secret Wars – now scheduled for December 17, 2027 (previously May 7, 2027)
The delays are due to production adjustments and additional development time needed, especially after the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike disrupted timelines.
Notable updates:
Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU, but as the villain Doctor Doom, not Iron Man.
Chris Evans is also expected to return, though his role hasn’t been disclosed.
The films will feature a massive ensemble cast including characters from Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four.
To fill the original May 1, 2026 slot, Disney will release The Devil Wears Prada 2.
